Timbaland and the 40 thieves

How should one react to this?

Basically this nerd blames Timbaland for stealing his nerdy amiga-tune. C'mon, the beat ain't that original and it could just be a coincidence. And if it's true, so what. Hip hop has always been about sampling and this poor guy's tune ain't the first one sacrificed on the altar of music biz.

the thing is really strange: why should timbaland steal from a finnish computer guy? does he spend his nights surfing the web?

anyway in the end some musicologist will say in court that the melody comes from a typical baroque canon, developed in Venice in the XVI century and noone will get any money, but Timbaland.

Yep, you are right. And by the way i would be SOOOO flattered if Timbo ripped us off. In fact i pray each night that Timbo will one night surf to kriton.biz and discover our hotness.

That would be so funny... because: basically we have ripped him for a couple of years already.... ha-haaaaa

Oh give us a break. That tired old "hip-hop is about sampling"-argument is not only completely ignorant, it is also down-right bollocks.

Hip-hop is _not_ about sampling, it is about urban beats and intelligent lyrics.

Anyone with a set of ears can _clearly_ hear that Timbaland (or one of his ghost-producers, we don't know yet) stole the song.

Spending time saying things like "Why should he rip this?" are stupid. Why should rich people embezzle money? They clearly have enough, right? There is no logic to stealing, that's what.

I agree with you on the fact that hip hop is urban, but c'mon... intelligent lyrics? You gotta be kidding here, right?

If Timba or Danjahandz or whoever in his team sampled some hindustani top-40 tunes, most people think it's funny, but when it's a finnish guy that's ripped, they think it's wrong. The point I was making is that this happens all the time, I don't think it's such a big fuss. What I've heard Dj Shadow never paid Pekka Pohjola for sampling his stuff.

And to add... I guess you never heard of innocent until proven guilty?

computer nerds should never mess with real ass playas. this finski dude is on real dangerous ground here, operating under his own name. i mean, there's a fat chance he might get a lead poisoning from one of Timbo's "assistants"...

intelligent lyrics? tht's like saying heavy metal is about social commentary and family values.

check out Young Jeezy, boy. He's the future of hiphop and all he says is "Jeezy likes to drink, Jeezy likes to smoke, Jeezy likes to mix Arm & Hammer with his coke". That's probably not the most intelligent thing to say. But it's damn sure the most honest.

More fuel for di flames! More Fiya!

Hip hop ain't nuttin' but a samplin' 'ting! When have you heard ANYTHING original from any artist associated in the broad 'urban' music genre? Really?

But I ain't complaining about that, mind you...
