Do the Cocomotion with Dennis

Cocomotion gets deep into summer 2010! In june i'll have Schmami from Shine 2009 (and also behind some AWESOME solo tracks...) as a guest DJ at Cocomotion. So i thought, who'd be better to start off the summer season than a picture good old Dennis Wilson, the absolute dudest of them Beach Dudes. Rumour has it that no other rock star dated more cute chicks in the 70's than Dennis.

Put on your Sebagos and take a sip of da Pina. Pacific Ocean Blue vibes run this mofo!

Studio geek fantasies

How friggin cool is this???? Brings out the materialist in me. But actually this dude built it himself, so i couldn't really buy this even if i had the money. Sad.

Another bad news is, the Kritons are out of a studio right now. The wall in our old one was cracking to pieces, so they have to do something about it... and NO, it's not breaking because of us making too much noise. So right now we can only dream about stuff like this...

PS. i just noticed that is is the 666:th post in the Kriton blog... spooky!

Jopo comes back

According to latest news, they're gonna start manufacturing Jopo-bikes once again in Finland. So the subcontractors in Taiwan must find some other way to make their living from now on.

I'm not sure if this will change the quality of the bikes, because they had no challenges in that area, but this is an awesome thing for the brand image, because not that many bikes are manufactured here in the Nordics, let alone Finland.

F****ng magnets, how do they work?

You've all seen the Insane Clown Posses's Miracles -vid right?

Here's the answer to the questions that we all still have: how do f****ng magnets really work. I mean, dude, really - how do they work?

e-bikes FTW

When is this trend reaching the tipping point? They're kinda weird looking, but environmental friendly. And supposedly there are over 100 million electric bikes in China, 4 times more than cars to be exact.

They're not supercheap, and the batteries cost a lot, but one battery should take you to the office and back for three years or so... (you do need to recharge it once in a while though).

I'd like to try one, although it would make me feel kinda granny.

Hevisaurus vs. Gwar

What we finnish people are good at is playing metal. I guess it's in the mother's milk of our northern heritage. Somehow this new kiddie metal band Hevisaurus (kings of jurametal) reminds me just a bit too much of Gwar and Lordi. But we all know that Gwar rules, and Lordi and Hevisaurus are for kids, right?

Jack Herer RIP

"Author and activist Jack Herer died Thursday in Eugene, Ore. The 70-year-old activist was in ill health following a heart attack he experienced after leaving the Hempstalk festival stage in Portland last fall.

Herer, pictured in 1996, was a longtime marijuana activist and the author of the landmark book "The Emperor Wears No Clothes: The Authoritative Historical Record of Cannabis and the Conspiracy Against Marijuana." By 2004, it had been through 16 printings and published more than 600,000 copies. In 2004, the L.A. Times wrote:

Today, Herer is widely credited with launching the modern hemp movement, a persistent campaign by an eclectic coalition of environmentalists, legislators, rights activists, farmers, scientists, entrepreneurs and others to end the maligned plant's banishment and tap its potential as a natural resource. ...

When Jack Herer began his quest to emancipate hemp, he just assumed that everyone would find the essential facts about the plant's qualities so compelling that the battle would be won in six months -- two years, tops. That was 29 years ago.

One of the many people intrigued by Herer's book was Dave West, a Midwest plant breeder with a doctorate in breeding and genetics. His curiosity about hemp had already been piqued by something he witnessed in the mid-1980s as he toiled one sweltering day in a Wisconsin cornfield. A helicopter suddenly appeared low in the sky, then hovered over an adjacent field while several men rappelled to the ground. It was a drug-enforcement operation going after wild marijuana. "Which, as a plant breeder and as somebody who grew up in Wisconsin, I knew was preposterous," West recalls. "I knew this was feral hemp and nobody wanted it, and that's why it was growing as a weed out there and nobody was picking it."

Herer, known to some as "the Hemperor," posted half of "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" online."

Fucking Hell! Beer!

Der Spiegel Reports:

"The European Union trademarks authority has permitted a German firm to register the brand name "Fucking Hell" for a new beer, much to the irritation of the Austrian village of Fucking.

In English, the term "Fucking Hell" is just an expletive used to express irritation or surprise. In German, it could refer to a light ale from Fucking in Upper Austria, because "Hell" is a term for light ale in southern Germany and Austria. The problem is that Fucking has no brewery, and the town's mayor, Franz Meindl, is not aware of any plans to build one there.

The Trade Marks and Designs Registration Office of the European Union said in a statement that it had rejected a complaint that the trade mark "Fucking Hell" was upsetting, accusatory and derogatory.

"The word combination claimed contains no semantic indication that could refer to a certain person or group of persons. Nor does it incite a particular act. It cannot even be understood as an instruction that the reader should go to hell," the Office said in its statement."

Thanks for the heads-up Giac.

Tocar la Gorda in Madrid!

I know i have already mentioned this awesome short film Tocar La Gorda by my bro, fiilin.com. But since the film contains the soon-to-be-officially-released Kriton classic "Torcha!", i'm gonna mention it again.

The film will be presented in FIC Móstoles Shortfilm Festival in Madrid the saturday the 17th of April. Next weekend that is. So if you're in Madrid, go and catch that flick. My bro and Henri, who plays the starring role (also, the most awesomest dude i the world, ever. But not the guy in that picture above..) will be there to make waves. GO SEE THAT FILM!

It's a logo

Let's get back into something Kriton-ish. A little update I just did to our "classic" logo..

Shoegaze-pop-orgasm

Who ever knew that the danish could make music this good? Nah, only kidding. But this latest single by Serena-Maneesh is ridiculously good (even though their new album is pretty uncompromsing pile of metallic shogaze noise...). Just like they swallowed Isn't Anything-era My Bloody valentine and vomited this perfect pop-song.

And also, their bass player is maybe the coolest looking human being ever.

Cocoa Tea and Riker's Island

History lesson #1. Cocoa Tea's been around since the 80's and he's one of the abc's of reggae, dancehall an DJ culture, so know you know.

History lesson #2. Riker's island is the classic from Cocoa Tea, and it tells a story of an NYC prison where Tupac and Lil Wayne have served some time. Crime doesn't pay, so you know now.

History lesson #3. The segregated unit at Rikers for LGBT prisoners was closed down in 2005. I guess Cocoa Tea was not singing about this unit..

A lot of 1990's stuff has been circulating in the Kriton blog lately, and this is is mos def 1990's influenced. Be sure to also check out their first video Higher.

Mixtapes are, like, the past, right? Spotify is, like, today, right? Naah, just kidding.. But since mixtapes can be a pain in the ass to make, I decided to go halfway and make a Spotify playlist for Cocomotion club. Here it is, fulla balearic goodness, dance jams and pop gems. Next time, I promise to make a mix.

Manhooker

Here it is - the new Azari & III single. And what a great title it has: "Manhooker". In finnish we have the expression "mihu", which pretty much describes a manhooker. So this goes out to all them mihus all around the the globe!

BTW: this song is so much darker and moodier stuff than what the previous Azari singles Reckless (For Your Love) and Hungry For The Power led us to expect from them. Awesome, claustrophobic stuff for the darkroom parties, full of mihus.

Love You Down x 3

I came across Meshell's brand new cover version of my absolute favorite 80's slow r&b jam, Ready For The World's Love You Down.

So i had to give you three versions: Meshell goes really deep, heavy and artistic with her vision of this, while INOJ gave you the Miami Bass-influenced, dancefloor-happy treatment (1997, check out the cool campus video with the sistas with them awesome sorority t-shirts... AND a up-and-coming Lil Jon deejaying at 2:50). And of course the classic original from 1986.

It's a shame they didn't have DJ Technics' way cool b-more remix (called "Girlfriend") on YouTube though.

Gotta go

This sooo reminds me of the Realest Song but it's still a banger. And those synth arpeggios... Nice. I guess Sean Kingston hasn't got that much to add to this riddim though.

Konshens really has had a lot of killer tunes lately, Good Girl Gone Bad, Winner, Realest Song... He's mos def an artist to follow.

One more sleeper hit

At first this seemed like an ok song, but it really grows after time. Kinda cool mixture of one drop / lovers chorus and Busy's more hectic vocals. Luv it.

Freestyle Track of the Day // Bettina: Destiny

Like whoa!

From the comments section:

"I love how you put together these videos. I wrote, arranged & produced "Destiny" I'm also the "Ah Shut Up" voice in the Loqueria mix, my friend does the Fix The House voice. We were actually fixing a house before we got to the studio. LOL That's how we came up with that."

Warrant issued for former Warrant singer

More info here
Although crimes or accidents are no fun, I couldn't help myself picturing these headlines:

"Former Poison singer sentenced to death by poison"
"White snake attacked former singer of Whitesnake"
"A giant ratt bit former singer of Ratt"
"Scorpions surrounded the former singer of Scorpions"

Bigga Choon Alert: K-OS: I Wish I Knew Natalie Portman

Featuring Saukrates(!) & Nelly Furtado. Gonna be BIG. Noddin' my head to this on repeat already. Also, waiting for Jamaica to discover this and hit us up with nice versions, just saying...

Dance Wid Me

Drop The Pressure by Mylo is one of my all time favourite electro bangers, check the vid below.

Now to make this year pretty nice, The South Rakkas Crew have done a remake on that riddim with Serocee. The songs called "Dance Wid Me" and you can download it and actually the whole album "Stimulus Package" from Mad Decent for free, in 320 kbps and it's all friggin legal as s**t and all. That's mad and decent.

M&M: Don't Stand In My Way

And while I'm still in the 1990s zone I need to drop another absolutely uplifting piano house classic. Enjoy!

At 1.13: 'Everybody in the house...'

After Alppila's 1980s Classic of the Day it's my turn.

The 1990s House Classic of the day: The Tinmen: 18 Strings. THE ORIGINAL VERSION, not the later official single version which had the guitar chords altered, mind you. This was the track to rip your shirt off, jump on to the podium stage thingy and Party Like a Rockstar at Botta in 1994, yeah I know... LOL!
