Well Hello Kitty

Gene Simmons is known to be a business man and also a business, man (like Jay Z would put it). But still this is a bit... awkward? Mr Simmons is now the executive producer for a new tv animation series with a working title "Kiss Hello Kitty". It is the latest brand extension from a series of Kiss x Hello Kitty products, which feature Hello Kitty wearing the trademark Kiss make up (uh-huh). This product line actually debuted already in 2010.

Ixnay on the Chronixxnay

So if 2012 was about Popcaan and Tommy Lee, I would predict Chronixx to be a safe bet for a 2013 talent in JA.

Don't sleep on Protoje!

Yeah, mon. I've always had a sweet spot for this kind of singjays with semi-conscious style mixed with a likkle of old skool patois verbalism. And looks like Protoje has actually invested some time and green for his videos, they're not just mobile cam shots from Kingston. This one's the fresher hit: But he's done good stuff for a couple years already, no wonder that he has also teamed up with Ky-Mani, this has a certain Marley-brotherhood vibe in it. Booyah, rasta!

Stan 2.0

Let see if our favourite new talent Kendrick Lamar can support Dido in her comeback. The rap verse is solid K-dot, but the song is more of a remake of Stan with Eminem from year 1999 or so. Read more and listen to the track 'Let us move on' here. And yeah, she still looks hot.

Zombie Love

There are a couple of TV series that keep me glued to the tv-set (or laptop) and one of them is the Walking Dead. A killer (!) first season, a semi-boring second one and now the third season really got me hooked.

But even more I was impressed by the the Walking Dead Game. This is mos def a daddy game, a one for the senior citizens, but in a good way. You don't go running around slashing zombies, it's more about living the story and making decisions that will alter the storyline.

Much more cool than the Star Wars Kinect that I bought last week. High expextations (I mean light sabers and Kinect, makings of ultimate fun) but serious fail. Disney-like storytelling and some wack gamemodes (dancing???) turned me off. Zombies rule.

Mustang Sally

Now it's time for some serious endorsement; Fender Mustang amps rock hard! This was the first modeling amp with built in effects that I have owned and I must admit I was really surpised how cool this little thing can be as your rehearse / home amp. This will give you many hours of instant fun from screetching metal sounds to foggy 60's tube amp emulations. Maybe not studio quality, but this one sends signal directly via USB, so you bet you'll hear this baby in the future Kriton releases. I used to be a true believer in tube only amps and still have my gigantic Laney stacks in the basement, but this is good fun and variation to that. Twang! Power Chord! Tapping! Riffs! Licks!

Vinyl Ads

Ok, kinda cool and leveraging the hype of vinyl, but really not that innovative. I remember as a kid subscribing to Guitar World & Guitar Player magazines and there were often vinyl singels as cut offs in the magazines.

Call it a remake, call it a version, call it a remix, call it stealing. What ever you call it, it works in reggae. This time a new talent, Hefla Nyah originally from JA, raised in Philly, has his way with Soft Cell's Tainted Love. This time with a bit more conscious roots vibe featuring Guyanese Natural Black.

Po-Po Brutality: If You See Something, Film Something

This video was created as an example of the importance of filming the police.

Video provides transparency, accountability, and an accurate account of incidents that occur. It is no secret that the United States has a serious problem with police abuse, brutality, and corruption. It is essential for civilians to document their encounters with police officers to ensure transparency, accountability, and safety to all of those involved. Police departments have, for too long, tried to bully, intimidate, threaten, arrest, or otherwise harass law abiding citizens from recording the activities of law enforcement in public.

Enough is enough! It is time for all of us to take a stand and expose police brutality when we witness it. Even if the officers behavior is correct, and justifiable, we still encourage the recording of the police activities for the transparency and accountability that is desperately needed in many departments. If you see something, film something, the freedom of press begins with you!

Prog, proggy, proggier, finnished

Not being a conoisseur of progressive rock I have not shared any finnish prog bands here, but there's always a first time for everything.

Here you go, Wigwam at its' best. 10 minutes of musical mayhem, instrumental geniousness and goofy (sorry, meant "hipster") looks.

DMCA can suck my balls

Yeah,

Blogger had to remove our mixtape post for the On the run -mixtape from a complaint by Traci Crippen from RIAA. The complaint states that "certain content in your blog is alleged to infringe upon the copyrights of others". And the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) complaint is based on "unauthorized reproductions of sound recordings by artist including CHINO"

What puzzles me is that on this blog we have not published nor uploaded any unauthorized material by Chino. What we published was a link to a mixtape on another service. So if linking is illegal by some US DMCA bia**es then we're quilty.

Well, I removed the name of Chino and reposted the daymn thing. The bad thing is that the original file that was on Mediafire is also deleted by DMCA complaints.

So let's see it this post gets moderated.

p.s. we're not blaming Blogger in the first place, but DMCA. Although Blogger could have bigger balls as well in cases like this. Or Google, or who ever pulls the strings here. Oops, now Google guys will delete this post.. Maybe we should insult Apple as well and get the Apple fanboys against us?

Megaupload song

Sooooo. We love 'em file sharing sites as well, but here Kanye, Drake and Diddy and other friends sing the praise for Megaupload. I'm puzzled. Honestly. How did they get these guys to promote this?

Anyways, two things I'd like to highlight from this clip.

1) We've been wondering where the heck is Lil Jon. Well, on this video.

2) The chorus melody is soooo world music that it would make Peter Gabriel and Wyclef Jean jealous.

Vybz Kartel escape?

This is real life Prison Break, not a TV show! Apparently Vybz Kartel managed to escape with a couple of cellmates from prison in JA. Read more details here

This is the biggest prison break in Jamaica ever, let's see how the Gaza Don will continue the escape. Vybz talking the talk and walking the walk! Badman a badman!

EDIT: Latest news: this might be a hoax, a rumour, just a media stunt to keep Vybz in the headlines? So say the police dem in jamaican media Who believe di police dem?

EDIT part deux. Ok, it seems like Hype Life Magazine started this rumor. Here's a direct quote from their website:

"I could appeal to the fact that it was written for the sake of a good joke, that I was just considering a good marketing move toward my website, but not expecting anyone to be naive enough to take it serious. "

Well, we at the Kriton camp find this ish extremely funny. Makes you think about journalism and quality of information sources. And it's powerful marketing for the website, and I guess Vybz don't mind the free publicity either.
