Roots riddims were really popular around the 2002-2008 era. Lately there have been some good riddims every now and then. Well this one is a fresh one, maybe not the new "Truth and Rights" or "Police In Helicopter", but it'll nice up the dance fi real.

She Call Me The King Riddim

Although HennyMan is a true reggae head, he hasn't actully produced any reggae riddims. Until now. Here's She Call Me The King Riddim, a combination of one drop and dub with some hip hop flavoured drums. If you're a deejay/singjay/vocalist and find this interesting, holla back.

Bad Boys, what ya gonna do?

It's only August, but I guess I have found the best reggae riddim of 2009. It's a version of the classic "Bad Boys" by Inner Circle - thee song from the TV-series "Cops".

This seems to be a quite new riddim, although the original ladygagagaga version is quite washed out by now. But this is once again done in a typical jamaican style. Warning: lyrics contain explicit sexual references.

Benny Hill Won't Climb Up Any Hill

All those who grew up in the 70's and 80's remember Benny Hill (RIP) and his Benny Hill Show-tv series. Ben Elton once denounced him as a "dirty old man, tearing the clothes off nubile girls" - which is not pretty far from the truth. But I liked the guy besides this or maybe because of it.

What we all remember particularly clearly is the closing scene when people used to chase Benny after he's done something stupid and this wack carneval/ circus music started playing. And now Elephant Man among others have recycled this thingy in a riddim called.... well hmmm, Benny Hill, what else? The Energy God is (as usual) acting hyper hyper active on his "No Ticcle".

You gotsta luuh the jamaican dancehall culture for its continuing need for change and hunger for new phenomenona. The newest phenomenon is obviously "daggering".

But what the heck is daggering? A condom brand, a dance, a riddim, an event, a song, a trendy expression? Yes, it's all of that.

“Daggering is an acrobatic, active gyration, it is not at one speed, people normally associate sex and violence especially with a name like dagger but although the terminology is hardcore, it is just a part of the dance. The best Dancehall riddim for 2008

Is here. It hasn't been particularly awesome year for jamaican music this year IMHO. I have really liked the more rootsy stuff for a few years and this year has brought us some great tunes from Perfect, Etana, Alaine, Demarco, Chezidek, Pressure, Munga and such pretty new timers plus loads of cool stuff from the older players. But nonetheless the riddims have not been that great, at least on the dancehall side.

I just heard this riddim today and this one is a true banger, as we Kritons like to say. It's called "Beauty" and it's ows a lot to the Diwali riddim from the year 2002. Ok, I the last trip I did to Jamaica was actually that same year, so I still remember how friggin huuuuuge diwali for back then, and it brings back good memories of good times, but still this rocks.

Beauty Riddim
