Collie Day 'n nite

I witnessed Collie's preaching yesterday at Redrum. I liked the show, 'cos he can really sing live and he's got a lot of good chunes as well. but I can see why some peeps find his weed anthems a bit boring lyrically.

However, check out the link above, A Collie remix of Kid Cudi's Day 'd Nite. Nice.

Omar Little as a shorty

I spent the last two months watching the all five seasons of The Wire. And it was all good, I mean it goes up there with Sopranos and such classics. Anyway, I found out that HBO has some cool prequels or such out there. And this is about Omar's youth. I gotta admit, Omar is the man.

Snoop Dubstep Millionaire

Yep, 2009 is the year when Snoop Dogg went dubstep. But whatever, this song is pretty damn crazy!!

Kriton Ice Rink Bangers live on 28.3.

On saturday 28.3 the Kriton Boys will be spinning discs at the Jääpuisto That's gonna be literally a cool happening, 'cos the place is an ice rink , a bit like the Rockefeller Center in NYC.

Wikipedia tells us that "An ice rink is a frozen body of water where people can ice skate or play winter sports. Some of its uses include playing ice hockey, figure skating exhibitions and contests, and ice shows".

We hope that there won't be too much ice hockey going on as we start playing them records, 'cos we don't have no "we will rock you" or any other sport event standards in our vinyl bags.

It's gonna be an early start, we'll be there from 4pm to 6 pm, and we're gonna focus a lot on easy going reggae, and maybe some smooth hip hop sounds. A good way to start the evening before you head out to the Tres Bien-club later on.

Maybe we'll play some eski-chunes as well...

It's all Tres Bien

I almost forgot to remind you of this: Yours truly, along with Top Billin' dudes Nenis & Fiskars, plus boogie and disco connoisseurs Pablo and Kalle will be deejaying in this fresh new club nite called Tres Bien. It's in Kuudes Linja, Hki on saturday 28th March.

Mixing it all together: the chocolate (boogie & disco) with the mayonaise (AOR & new wave), myself providing more of the latter. See you there!

Best hip hop song this year (so far)

Ya''ll should know this already: Cam'ron's "I Hate My Job". Already a classic.

So eagerly waiting for "Crime Pays", possibly the rap record of this year!

Best pop song this year (so far)

Hands down, this is where it's at: "Daniel" by Bat For Lashes.

The single cover features Natasha Khan a.k.a. Bat For Lashes standing on the beach topless (no, there's no titties to be seen, you dirty bastards) showing a portrait of Ralph Macchio as Karate Kid painted on her back. How friggin cool is that!

edit: here's that cover pic 4 ya'll!

This Is Official: Richie Jackson Is The RADDEST!

I always sucked on skateboard and I've no problem admitting that. However, I've always had great respect for good skateboarders and blah blah. Anyhow, there's skateboarding and then there's skateboarding. Now in my world it should be about freedom, expression, skills, style, raddness and FUN. And none of that boring technical shit.

And I've seen the light. Ritchie Jackson is my Man. He has the maddest chops and the raddest style ever. If I could skate for shit, I'd try to copy his every move. For real.

Heavy Metal Monk

Sunday mornings are good for many things. One of them being pointless youtubing. Like watching videos like this.

A typical Slayer fan

SLAYERRRRRR!

I used to be into Slayer in the Hell Awaits / Reign in Blood / South Of Heaven -era, so I know what this guy is talking about. Well, Slayer still has way more street cred than most of their peers from the 80's. Metallica, Megadeth.... gimme a break.

Marmite tonite!

Not being an englishman, I cannot say what Marmite means to the peeps in UK. However I had to buy some Marmite for the first time in my life 'cos it just looked so appealing on the market shelf at one of these ethnic stores in Hakaniemi today (yah, maybe the british food culture is considered ethnic here, who knows). According to wikipedia it should have some umami qualities. Hmm. Let us see.

I'll probably dislike the taste of it, 'cos I don't even fancy any peanut butter or chocolate spreads on my toast. I'm all butter, jam, marmelade or cheese spread -man. Totally. No exceptions here. Unless the Marmite blows my mind .

Trek X Lance Armstrong X Kaws X Barry McGee

I'm trying to infiltrate my Fixed Gear Bikes Blog stuff into Kriton blog here but we dig graphic design, graffiti art AND cycling anyway so here we go:

Check out these custom Trek Madone road bikes painted by KAWS and Barry McGee for Lance Armstrong's Livestrong Foundation. Some people, myself included, might not like modern road bike design so much but I gotta admit that these bikes look pretty hot with the unique art work on them and all that.

It's an England story, mate, oi!

Like I opened up here before:good reggae can come out of somewhere else than Jamaica. And today I got reminded that actually England is the home of many great reggae / reggae influenced artists. I mean Aswad, Black Roots, Musical Youth, Steel Pulse and such are great, but as I bought the "An England Story Compilation, Vol I" by Soul Jazz Recordings today I remembered all these cool toasters who showed the rich multicultural heritage of the britons.

This cool compilation brought back the sounds of Tenor Fly, Papa Levi, Top Cat, Freestylers, RaggaTwins, Tippa Irie and their mates. Check out this vid to feel the ragga of the 90's....
